About us
The Social Assistance Foundation of Chabad Lubavitch, run by Rabbi MordejaiBirman, was created in 1989 and had a social assistance center which provided economic assistance and fresh food.
In July 2002, the program became official and the Social Assistance Network of Chabad was created: with 10 assistance centers (8 in the city of Buenos Aires and 2 in the province of Buenos Aires), with the aim of solving the crisis that Argentina was going through and the terrible effects that it had in the Jewish community. At that time, we provided assistance to more than 2200 families.
At present, we have 6 centers (5 in the City of Buenos Aires and 1 in the West District of the Province of Buenos Aires). Each one has an average of 160 families who are beneficiaries of the program and is run by a professional (B.A. in Social Work and in Psychology).
The assistance we offer to the families is comprehensive, that is to say, we not only help them to cover the totality of their basic needs (food voucher / supermarket card for direct purchase of merchandise, medication, medical aid, psychological and psychiatric treatment, subsidies for rental payment, service and maintenance of their houses, etc.) but our professionals also offer social orientation as well as work and communitarian integration services taking into account the special characteristics that each case entails.
In addition, we offer complementary kosher food to 400 families every month (beneficiaries of other communitarian assistance networks) and more than 3200 people eat in our 3 communitarian dining halls every month (160 people every day).
In order to help in a more efficient way, Chabad Foundation has different programs through which it provides specific assistance. These programs are:
- Iedid Nefesh: ("Sole Friend") offers meeting and reflection workshops for youngsters and adults.
- Javaia: (“Coexistence””) a space for support, leisure and assistance to elderly people.
- Maón Tipulí: (“Therapeutic Meetings”) assists people who suffer from mental diseases.
- Juijim Lebanim (“White Smiles”) a program of dentistry assistance for children.
- Teivah: (“ark”) basic assistance for vulnerable people and families.
Mission
Provide comprehensive and personalized assistance to members of the Jewish community who are in vulnerable situations, covering their basic needs, supporting and strengthening them in issues related to Social Orientation, Employment Opportunities and Communitarian Integration.
